Tin Men And Telephone is a jazz ensemble with a contemporary shtick.Drummer Borislav Petrov drove the tune forward with impressive force and grace, creating ample space for Roe and contrabassist Lucas Dols to practice their improv licks.Molvaer is an important figure on his country's jazz and contemporary music landscape, counted among those musicians credited with creating a Scandinavian blend of jazz and electronic musics, which clubbers recognize as "ambient".Davis' lyric jazz trumpet has been emulated, copied and plagiarized on a geometric scale.The musical center of the ensemble is filled by violist Oene van Geel and tabla-player Niti Ranjan Biswas.Michel Banabila is a Rotterdam-based experimental musician and sound artist; this evening the gentleman joining the Nordanians on stage wielded a bass sax. Though he remained aloof of much of the opening bits of the set (the sax doesn't really approximate any of the instruments used in classical Indian music), he did find a niche in the lone down-tempo number and remained busy through the end of the set.
