It's hard not to speculate what the poet Khalil Gibran would have made of the scene. Clad in designer eveningwear, hundreds of VIP guests sipped bubbly and snapped selfies on the red carpet as they awaited the arrival of Salma Hayek, the co-producer and star of Roger Allers' "Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet". By the time Hayek arrived, clad in an elegant, floor-length Elie Saab gown, the VIP guests had begun to spill out of the cinema's lobby and back onto the red carpet, desperate to snatch a selfie with the star.Eventually Hayek herself was forced to step in, shouting at fans to clear the area and allow the photographers to do their jobs.Waving her arms and gesticulating at VIP admirers with index finger and thumb pinched together – a very Lebanese expression of exasperation – Hayek was eventually able to convince the mob to clear a small space between her and the frustrated press. Hayek remained calm, smiling graciously for photos as fans continued to crowd around, taking their own snaps with the star. Inside, the crowd pressed close to the podium, where Hayek and Allers stood before a large poster for the film they were meant to introduce.Unable to hear, frustrated fans called on Hayek to raise her voice, making it even harder for the star to make herself heard.
