The young artist's second solo exhibition, currently on show at 392Rmeil393, consists of a series of 29 colorful paintings and three black-and-white works of video art.The artist's own likeness appears in several of paintings.Khaddaj has an excellent eye for color.Picasso is also evoked in the way Khaddaj disassembles the figures in his portraits, breaking down faces into a series of simple overlapping lines and forms and then playing with artistic convention by breaking the rules of figuration.Khaddaj's still form is posed in the center of the screen, his face calm and blank.It opens with a shot of Khaddaj's chest, the artist's hands palming his pecs and nipples."the serene" is A video work by Mazen Khaddaj. Khaddaj's decorative, accessible paintings and more conceptually driven video works come together to form an engaging and subtly humorous show.Mazen Khaddaj's "The Middle State" is on show at 392Rmeil393 in Gemmayzeh until March 10 .
