The verse of Ameen Rihani has emerged in pop music. Rihani was among the Lebanese writers clustered in the Mahjar, a group of expatriate Arab writers who'd emigrated to, and continued to write in, North America in the late-19th and early 20th centuries. Some consider Rihani to be the founding father of Arab-American literature. An Italian scholar and writer, Medici also translated Rihani's novel "The Book of Khalid," which some consider the first English-language novel by an Arab-American writer.
