The event will debut in the first week of November with a 25-film program of art films projected over four days. "Art film" here doesn't mean auteur-driven fiction and nonfiction works – the stock in trade of the international festival circuit – but documentary films about art. Films about the visual and performing arts have been compartmentalized into contemporary art, "masterpieces," art collections, museums, dance, music (and "divas"), photography and cinema, but space has also been found for architecture, design and fashion. The event's founder and festival manager is veteran gallerist Alice Mogabgab. She told The Daily Star she was inspired to create a festival of films about art after attending Montreal's FIFA (International Festival of Films on Art). In this festival of "films" about art – whose program is festooned with television productions – Wenders' much-feted profile of the work of photographer Sebastiao Salgado will surely be the highlight of BAFF.The Beirut Art Film Festival runs at Metropolis Cinema-Sofil and some university venues Nov. 5-8 .
