The 3-D space adventure has premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where critics and audiences cheered Ridley Scott's latest venture into science fiction as a return to form for the director. The film, which is set for an Oct. 2 release, is easily the biggest blockbuster premiering at TIFF, and the festival provided the liftoff "The Martian" was looking for.For most of the film, Damon's scenes are entirely on his own, isolated on the red planet.Damon said "The Martian" is a joyful, thoughtful distraction for people in hard times. The cast of "The Martian," which includes Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Kristen Wiig and Donald Glover, is more diverse.
