Visitors strolling through the central gallery of Istanbul Modern these days will be confronted by "Saltwater," a collective exhibition of 60-odd international artists that is a central facet of this year's Istanbul Biennial. Among the work here is the 14-piece "Pillar" series of Lebanese artist Mawran Rechmaoui. Rechmaoui says the "Pillar" series has been cooking for a long time.The "Pillar" series is a recognizable part of Rechmaoui's oeuvre.Rechmaoui's 14 pillars is one of his two contributions to the Istanbul Modern show.One gallery has been dedicated to a series of 12 canvases by Paul Guiragossian, dating from the late 1940s to the early '90s.The selection includes different media and subjects – still life and portraits, including the artist's well-known 1948 self-portrait. Another room is for a new work by writer and artist Etel Adnan, whose Ottoman family heritage is a significant part of her early biography
