In 2008, Rasha Salti and Kristine Khouri stumbled upon the exhibition catalogue for the "International Art Exhibition for Palestine".Comprising 200 works, donated by almost 200 artists from 30 countries, it was hoped the exhibition would one day enter the collection of a museum in a liberated Palestine.Israel shelled the plastic arts section offices, where the artworks and their documentation were stored, reducing the exhibition to buried memories. Thus began a research project that has preoccupied Salti and Khouri for a decade."A museum in exile," Salti explained, is a traveling, artist-donated collection, whose coherence isn't decided by a curator but "by the people who are standing together for a cause.Lazar had told Kalak about Museo Internacional de la Resistencia Salvador Allende.Three decades later, Lazar suggested Khouri and Salti investigate Kalak's Chilean initiative.One archived image that the curators found particularly striking was a black-and-white snap Lazar took during the 1978 Beirut exhibition, showing an artwork by Jacques Monory.The photo, which was taken in March 1978, shows artist Ezzeddine Kalak reflected in the work's mirror.
