A few years back, Saradar Group commenced a process to create a collection of modern and contemporary art from Lebanon, with an eye to public exhibition. Artistic Cultural Events s.a.l., a company to build and manage the collection, was founded and a committee of international art professionals was assembled to consult on acquisitions. Last week the Saradar Collection archive launched its online platform, with the aim of sharing a previously private collection. That collection presently contains more than 250 artworks by over 40 artists, dating from 1917 until today. Founded in 2012 by Mario Saradar, the Saradar Collection hopes to address the lack of institutional collections focusing on modern and contemporary art in the country. It aims to support local artists and ensure that a significant part of the country's artistic heritage is preserved and shared.
