After shutting its doors in 1991, Faqra Club's managers have reopened La Boite nightclub to host "1001 Nights, 1001 Works".Mogabgab has curated this summertime event, centering on "Art into the Night" – an exhibition comprising over 60 artworks by 18 artists, all exploring the theme of night and darkness – with a parallel program of performances and talks running through August. Mogabgab said she wanted to reproduce the silent quality of the night and the atmosphere after the music stops, far from the din of the city.Syrian graphic artist Azza Abo Rebieh is showing "Traces," a 10-print series depicting the 120 nights she spent in a Syrian prison. The exhibition's public program comprises some 20 performances, film screenings, talks and presentations.Mogabgab believes there is yet more to do with the space as an artistic venue and may reprise the event next year.
