The plight of young, penniless artists is an often-heard tale – a worldwide phenomenon that almost all aspiring creatives struggle through to gain recognition and exposure in today's competitive art market. Fortunately, the Beirut Art Fair, which opened its ninth edition at the Seaside Arena Wednesday, has gradually created an ever-growing space for galleries and platforms that seek to highlight emerging artists. One such section of the fair is the third edition of SGBL's REVEALING, which this year is showcasing the works of 18 emerging artists. At this year's fair is CUB Gallery.CUB's stand this year is showing nine artists, including the eye-catching work of USKE architecture student Christian Sleiman. The winner will receive the opportunity for a solo exhibition in the coming year, a mentoring program with Beirut Art Fair's projects manager Marine Bougaran and photographer Aurelie Petrel.Hadi Moussally, a contestant whose work shows black-and-white shots of people with vitiligo – a skin condition resulting in patchy pigmentation – said he believes exposure is the driving force behind success in the emerging art market.Beirut Art Fair is on at the Seaside Arena, Beirut New Waterfront, until Sept. 23, 3-9 p.m.
