After a five-year slump in viewers, the Viacom-owned network has seen four straight quarters of growth and its highest third-quarter prime time ratings in seven years, according to Nielsen figures.The data shows a 46 percent surge in MTV's target audience of 18-34 year olds compared with the same period in 2017 .At its 35-year mark, MTV is responding with new programming on issues such as substance abuse, immigration and politics.At the end of 2018, MTV will launch an annual Teen Trailblazers event to highlight the efforts of more than a dozen young people who inspire others on issues ranging from the environment to women's rights, McCarthy said.MTV plans to mark the U.S. mid-term elections in November with a new campaign.
