Wall Street's major indexes were higher on the first trading session of the year Tuesday, driven by technology and consumer discretionary stocks, setting the stage for another year of robust gains for equities.Gains in Apple, Facebook, Alphabet and Microsoft pulled the technology index higher. The index had gained 36.9 percent in 2017, the best performing S&P sector.At 10:50 a.m. in New York (5:50 p.m. Beirut time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 61.97 points, or 0.25 percent, at 24,781.19 and the S&P 500 was up 16.91 points, or 0.63 percent, at 2,690.52 .
