BEIRUT: Beirut Water Supply and Sanitation urged customers to pay their overdue fees before the end of the year in order to benefit from a 90 percent discount or face having their water cut off.

“Water Supply asks citizens ... to pay their overdue bills from previous years in order to benefit from the exemption that reduces the bill by 90 percent or they will be subject to the penalty of a cutoff,” a statement from the company, responsible for supplying water to the entire city, said.

The government usually offers an exemption period prior to the end of the year, allowing citizens to pay their overdue bills.

The company also urged people to pay their water bills for 2012 to the collectors or sanitation offices of their corresponding areas.

It also asked them to verify the identity of the bill collectors prior to payment and ask for a receipt.
