BEIRUT: The Tourism Ministry denied in a statement comments by the head of the Hotel Owners Association, Pierre Achkar, that room occupancy improved tremendously following the appointment of Tammam Salam as prime minister-designate of Lebanon.

“The Tourism Ministry is keen to explain that the remarks made by Achkar to The Daily Star (April 25) that hotel room occupancy reached 82 percent since the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Mikati are not accurate.”

The statement stressed that the average room occupancy is still 50 percent and that this figure has not changed since Mikati’s resignation.
