Lebanese construction permits decline in 2012

BEIRUT: Construction permits issued by the Orders of Engineers in Beirut and Tripoli declined 11.7 percent in 2012 compared to 2011, when they also declined 6.8 percent.

All regions, except the Bekaa, reported a contraction in construction permits in 2012 with the most significant declines seen in Beirut at 18.4 percent, 15.6 percent in Mount Lebanon, and 13 percent in Nabatieh.

Mount Lebanon projects accounted for the majority of newly issued construction permits in 2012 with 49.2 percent.
