Bab al-Tabbaneh residents press for compensation
A+ A-

BEIRUT: Shop owners in the clash-stricken Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh reiterated calls for government compensation Monday, more than a month after the latest round of violence.

“We demand that Prime Minister Najib Mikati prompt the Higher Council for Relief to disburse compensations, given the harsh economic conditions that most residents in Bab al-Tabbaneh are facing,” a statement by a local committee said, adding the Lebanese Army had completed surveying damages in the neighborhood.

The statement also called on the government to exempt the area from taxes and bills.
