Uptick in passengers arriving to Lebanon

BEIRUT: The Directorate General for Civil Aviation announced Tuesday that the number of passengers arriving to Beirut's airport in May increased by about 1.96 percent compared with May 2013.

Even though arrivals are up, the number of departures decreased by 3.75 percent and the numbers of transit travelers decreased by 9.35 percent.

The latest statistics show a little less than 1 percent decrease in the number of passengers passing through the national airport in May 2014 compared with May 2013.

The numbers showed that the first five months of 2013 had witnessed more passengers than the first five months of 2014, which suffered a 4 percent decline in total travelers.

The statistics also showed a substantial 23.1 percent decrease in goods exported through the airport and a 2.2 percent decline in imports.
