BEIRUT: Zain Group, the private operator of one of Lebanon’s two state-owned mobile networks, has appointed Wassim Mansour as the general manager of touch.
Mansour succeeds Claude Bassil, who has served as touch’s general manager since January 2008 and “will be moving to a senior management role within Zain Group,” a statement by the group said.
Mansour served as chief adviser to the Zain Group CEO for the past 18 months, during which time he temporarily served as CEO of Zain South Sudan, the statement added.
“Touch is a part of the landscape in Lebanon and I feel a strong sense of responsibility to continue working closely with the Telecommunications Ministry to maintain the mobile operation’s high standards and take it to new heights of innovation and service,” the statement quoted Mansour as saying.
Earlier this month, Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb warned Zain Group and Orascom Telecom – which manages Lebanon’s second mobile network, Alfa – that the government would terminate their contacts unless the networks’ quality was improved.
The contracts were extended last February, and will expire at the end of the month, when the government is expected to launch a new tender process.
