BEIRUT: Lebanese apple exporters called on the Lebanese state Monday to compensate them for losses incurred during the Egyptian revolt that has all but shut down that country’s economy over the last two weeks. “[The Lebanese state] should study the situation that [Lebanese exporters] are in. They should compensate them and help them open new markets for Lebanese apples, knowing that large amounts of apples remain stacked in fridges and they can’t stay in storage for much longer,” a statement from a group of apple exporters said. Egypt is the largest market for Lebanese apple exports. Apple shipments that were en route to Egypt had been “badly damaged,” according to the exporters.
