Hotel owners propose measures to help tourism

BEIRUT: The Association of Hotel Owners has called on the government to exempt tourists coming through Rafik Hariri International Airport from taxes and fees.

It also urged the government to subsidize tickets for tourist delegations coming from Jordan, Iran and Syria in a bid to improve the tourism sector. The association issued a statement referring to the need “to save the sector, which is reeling under the difficult situation in the country.”

It added that the association was preparing a memorandum outlining the demands of the hotels sector. The document will be submitted to the Parliament and relevant ministers, it said.

“The demands include postponing the start of school until first of October to activate the tourism season and activating the national council for tourism,” the statement said.
