Education on salary scale needed: top banker

BEIRUT: President of the Association of Banks in Lebanon, Francois Bassil, called upon the government to start with an awareness campaign for citizens on the negative impact of adopting the salary scale.

“We do want to improve the salaries of public employees for them to offer the best services to citizens, but we want this to take place following the implementation of the necessary reforms,” he said.

Bassil has expressed reservations concerning the increase in electricity tariffs to fund the salary scale, saying that this extra fee should be used to close the deficit of Electricite du Liban.

On the other hand, he said the level of deposits flow to Lebanon by non-residents retreated due to the lack of security and political stability.
