The Agriculture Ministry announced Monday that it would create a special department for emergency and disaster management, its first step in implementing a broader agriculture-protection strategy. "We are trying to use scientific means for facing disasters and I believe that creating such a department is the best way to do so," Agriculture Minister Akram Chehayeb said. He added that he has formed a committee, comprising the different departments at the ministry, whose responsibility is to draft the first phase of a disaster-management strategy with the technical cooperation of the United Nations Development Program.
