Middle East Airlines saw the official inauguration Friday of its new $25 million cargo center that was designed to speed up the inspection of goods and handle all types and sizes of imported and exported items.MEA chairman Mohammad Hout said the idea to build a new cargo center near the airport had come about over three years ago after discussions on replacing existing 50-year-old facility, which was quite small and poorly equipped. Hout explained that the new cargo center could store 165,000 tons of goods, compared to the old facility's 65,000-ton capacity. The new cargo center is built over an area of 20,645 square meters and is equipped with more than 330 closed-circuit cameras, four large scanners, four generators and the latest UPS systems.
