Security forces raided a number of gas stations in the Bekaa region in search of smuggled gasoline from Syria, caretaker Economy Minister Raed Khoury told The Daily Star Thursday.Earlier that day, caretaker Minister of State for Combatting Corruption Nicolas Tueni told a radio station that the Lebanese state was losing LL500,000,000 ($332,500) per day due to smuggled fuel. The president of the Association of Petroleum Importing Companies Maroun Chammas said Wednesday that around 1.5 million liters of gasoline and fuel oil are smuggled from Syria to Lebanon daily, representing 20 percent of gasoline consumption in the country.
