General Security denies banning film
A+ A-

BEIRUT: General Security Saturday denied allegations that it has banned a movie directed by Lebanese director Christophe Karabache.

“This is completely inaccurate and no distributor has asked for a permit to import this movie from the General Directorate of the General Security until this date,” the security agency said in a statement.

Last week, word emerged that General Security had banned Karabache’s “Too Much Love Will Kill You” for allegedly containing scenes that insult Lebanese society.

The movie tells the story of a Russian woman who leaves Paris for Beirut, where she becomes a cabaret dancer. There, she meets several characters, one of them portrayed by Karabache himself.

According to the filmmaker’s Facebook page, the movie is scheduled to be released in France this month.

General Security accused Karabache of attempting to promote his movie by disseminating “false information.”

“It seems that the director insists on spreading false information full of allegations for promotional purposes for his movie,” the statement said.
