BEIRUT: A public beauty and fitness expo will bring live workout classes, makeup tutorials and kilos of protein powder to the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure center this weekend. The In Shape Health, Beauty and Fitness Fair will hold its fifth exhibition from Friday afternoon until Monday night. The annual trade show organized by event planning company E-Squared is the city’s largest health and wellness event. The exhibitors participating this year include hair stylists, makeup artists, personal trainers, local gyms, nutritionists and doctors.
The last In Shape expo opened on Oct. 19, 2012, the day a car bomb ripped through Beirut’s Ashrafieh neighborhood and killed top security official Wissam al-Hassan. The resulting tumult led In Shape’s organizers to extend the event beyond its originally scheduled time.
The expo’s organizers, Tanya Eid, general manager of E-Squared, newly appointed Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon and Mohamed Choucair, the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Beirut, acknowledged the country’s poor security and need for an economic boost in their official event announcement.
“In Shape comes this year – despite the difficult circumstances that hang over Lebanon coupled with the recession – as a window of hope,” said a press release about the trade fair.
In Shape is an interactive exhibition that includes live, healthful cooking classes, on-site spa treatment demonstrations, public aerobic classes and other tutorials on beauty and wellness. Fair-goers can also learn about innovations in wellness and beauty as well as shop at stalls for merchandise ranging from cosmetics to fitness equipment.
The expo also honors leaders in the fields of beauty and wellness. Several hair stylists will receive awards as part of the program this year.
New to the fair will be Leila Obeid, host of the television show “Beauty Clinic.” She will oversee a program of beauty tips and demonstrations, including talks on natural remedies, cosmetic innovations, personal wellness tricks and a roundtable of doctors.
This year, more than 40 medical professionals from the Lebanese Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and the Lebanese Dental Association will be participating in the four-day fair.
In Shape’s main stage will feature yearly favorites, including the Radical Fitness Show led by Wael Jaber, makeovers by Mosbah al-Jammal and Maya Zaidan, Zumba and a Latin fitness dance demonstration by Bailando. Cooking demonstrations will showcase healthy, quick-fix recipes, drinks and smoothies to boost energy and tips for dieting and weight loss.
Lebanon is a regional leader in cosmetic and medical tourism. The trade fair seeks to showcase the country’s top talent in health and wellness as well as bring together professionals of different fields for collaboration and learning.
“This exhibition is designed to offer more products and services in the areas of modern health, beauty and fitness and display information on the most advanced technologies, providing a creative space for the exchange of innovative ideas between professionals and specialists,” the event’s press release said.
