BEIRUT: Nijmeh added another foreign player to their ranks Tuesday with the signing of Gabonese striker Gilles Mbang Ondo, the club announced.
Mbang Ondo impressed during Lebanon’s friendly with Gabon earlier this month, demonstrating a diverse skill set in attack, where he was utilized as a lone striker and second striker.
The 27-year-old began his youth career at French giants Paris St. Germain before moving to Ligue 1 rivals Auxerre.
But it was in Scandinavia where Mbang Ondo truly flourished, enjoying spells with SC Eisenstadt (Austria), Knattspyrnudeild UMFG ( Iceland) and most recently Stabaek Fotball of Norway prior to his move to Lebanon.
Mbang Ondo expressed his delight at joining Lebanon’s “best team” and promised to give his all for the club as they aim to win their first league title in four years.
Nijmeh sit second in the league, one point behind leaders and defending champions Safa.
Mbang Ondo joins Brazilian Fabio and Libyan Osama al-Farani as the Beirut side’s foreign contingent.
