Pick pretty much any mass-produced car rolling off the factory floor today. The SL was a car made to last forever and to look stylish even decades down the road.It is important to point out that the SL and the SLC were two very different cars. Over the SL's 18-year production run, Mercedes-Benz also offered no fewer than four different types of fuel injection systems in its attempt to continuously improve the car.The Bavarians were still trying to break into the high-end market, and Mercedes-Benz undoubtedly sat high above the wreckage that characterized Detroit and Coventry. If you're looking to pick up one of these timeless machines (I refuse to call them classics) stick to the '80s with their nicer four-speed automatics and revised mechanicals, and make sure it comes with the hardtop. If well maintained, It'll probably still be cruising alongside the Google cars long after automobiles manufactured today have retired in junkyards.
