With over 3 million units produced worldwide from 1968 through 1983, the 504 came in multiple configurations, mainly in sedan and wagon form, but also as a coupe, cabriolet and even pickup truck, albeit the last three in few numbers.
Over the years, more engines were added, especially a less thirsty one in 1973 in the face of the oil crisis, while the cabriolet and coupe gained a 2.7-liter V-6 unit.
Into that chaos came the 504, at a time when the BMW 2800/3000 and Jaguar XJ6 ruled supreme.
Very few things could ruffle this car or its suspension, and I personally know of a few examples that have run for over a million kilometers. Very few older cars can make that claim, and certainly even fewer among the new breed of automobiles.
However, bland as the car may seem, it's anything but forgettable, especially for us Lebanese.
