Folkloric and a national symbol: saving the Balkan Lynx

This undated handout camera trap picture provided by Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) shows a Balkan lynx, classified as critically endangered, walking in Munella mountain near the city of Puka. In Albania, legend has it that staring into the almond-shaped eyes of the Balkan Lynx renders you blind. But today, sightings of the rare wildcat have become so unlikely that conservationists have raised a red flag about its future. / AFP / PPNEA /
