Adib Sayegh was astonished after overcoming yet another phase of La Voz, the Spanish version of the singing competition The Voice".For Sayegh, who is equal parts singer and hispanophile, to have reached this stage of the competition is a dream come true.Sayegh first started to learn the Spanish language by watching Spanish soap operas and later took lessons at the Instituto Cervantes in Beirut, a gift from his father.Sayegh, who used to sing at bars in Beirut's Hamra neighborhood with Lebanese singer Alecco, looked back in disbelief to the day he decided to try his luck with the popular singing contest The Voice.Three out of the four coaches pressed the button, putting them in the running to be chosen to mentor Sayegh.Three of them pass directly to the final stage of the competition and the remaining six take part in the Knockout Rounds, which Sayegh overcame Friday with his performance of "Contigo aprendi," another bolero by Mexican musician Armando Manzanero.Sayegh is now looking forward to the last phase of the competition, the final, live performances, which will take place each Friday until Dec. 22 .Sayegh said he felt both optimistic and cautious about this next stage.
