St. Patrick's Day is celebrated globally every year in on March 17, and no less in Lebanon. At least 150 people of a broad range of nationalities gathered at the Hotel Sofitel Beirut Le Gabriel in Beirut's Ashrafieh Saturday to celebrate Ireland's culture and honor its patron saint.
A vast table of raffle prizes was on display, provided by Beirut Duty Free and Aer Rianta International Middle East, with proceeds going to support Irish-based NGO Concern Worldwide, which works with Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
The ambassador's visit included a meet with the Irish contingent of the U.N. peacekeeping force in south Lebanon, just ahead of the 40th anniversary of UNIFIL's establishment on Monday. Ireland has contributed troops to UNIFIL since 1978, with 336 Irish personnel currently serving in the Irish-Finish Battalion and Ireland's Maj.
