The first-ever sport fishing championship in Lebanon began Friday morning, promoting watersports culture, marine wildlife and coastline protection. Held over two days, with the final results to be announced Sunday, the Arab Sport Fishing Competition in Jounieh opened to participants from all Arab nations.The teams will be evaluated on the total weight of the caught fish and the biggest fish.Annette Khoury, who co-founded the Lebanon Water Festival with Simon Khoury, expressed regret at Friday's unusually calm weather, saying the teams caught smaller fish than the groupers and king mackerels some had been aiming for.Annette and Simon Khoury are both former competitors who decided to bring the culture of watersports to the country through the Lebanon Water Festival, after having competed at the highest international level themselves.
