NAIROBI: Britain appointed Thursday its first ambassador to war-torn Somalia for 21 years, with an embassy to open in anarchic Mogadishu when the security situation allows, officials said.
"Matt Baugh handed his credentials to be accredited as British Ambassador to Somalia to President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the first for 21 years," said a British embassy spokesman in the Kenyan capital. "He will be based in Nairobi until the security situation allows."
