MOSCOW: French actor Gerard Depardieu has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and received a Russian passport, Putin's spokesman told AFP on Sunday.

"There was a short meeting" on Saturday at Putin's residence in the Black Sea resort town of Sochi, Dmitry Peskov said, adding that the French actor had received his Russian passport. It was not clear if the passport was received during the meeting.
