DONETSK, Ukraine: Armed rebels seized control of a Ukrainian national guard barracks in the insurgent-held eastern city of Donetsk on Friday, an AFP correspondent at the scene said.
Explosions were heard in the city, but it was not clear if they were linked to the takeover of the National Guard barracks, and the correspondent said it appeared the separatists had not encountered any resistance.
