Speaker Nabih Berri said he would back Prime Minister Saad Hariri to stay in his position in the post-election Cabinet, local daily al-Joumhouriya reported Wednesday.Berri has served as Speaker since 1992 . The assurances came after media reports said the Free Patriotic Movement and its allies would not support Berri's re-election as the speaker this time, apparently in response to his opposition to the election of the FPM founder Michel Aoun as president in 2016 .The battle for the speaker's position also comes as Berri's ties with FPM leader and Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil have been strained, while his relationship with Aoun remains unstable. Many current ministers are in the running for upcoming elections.
