BEIRUT: Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abu Faour Monday urged all political parties not to import the regional crisis into the country.
In a speech during a social event in Hasbaya in south Lebanon, Abu Faour said he hoped “understanding, tolerance and dialogue will prevail and that political parties will regain their national senses.”
“What is happening in the region is none of our business and we can’t endure its consequences. We have no interest in pushing ourselves into the Syrian inferno and in importing this crisis to Lebanon,” he said.
“Each party has its choices, decisions and convictions but ... we should make choices that aim to repair state institutions and reactivate the self-disassociation policy because the alternative to such measures is to mourn our national entity, and we don’t want that.”
