BEIRUT: Ahmad Hariri, the secretary-general of the Future Movement, visited Tuesday Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim, the director-general of General Security.
He also held meetings with Army commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi and Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Basbous, the acting head of the Internal Security Forces.
Speaking after his tour, Hariri said he highlighted to Kahwagi the need to support security bodies in order to minimize the losses Lebanon could incur, given regional turmoil, particularly in Syria.
“We rely on the dear military establishment. This is a national establishment that we oppose that anyone questions its patriotism,” he said.
Separately, Ibrahim discussed security developments on the Syrian border with Israel with the head of the U.N. peacekeeping force in the Golan, Maj. Gen. Iqbal Singh Singha.
