HERMEL, Lebanon: A hostage swap Thursday in east Lebanon saw the release of two Lebanese brothers and three Syrian nationals, security sources told The Daily Star.
Ali and Hasan Ismael, two Lebanese brothers who were kidnapped last week in the Bekaa town of Brital, and three Syrians who were kidnapped earlier this week in retaliation were released in the hostage exchange, the sources said.
The sources said the Ismael family had owed money to traders from the Syrian town of Assal Al-Ward, where the Ismael brothers were taken following their kidnapping. In retaliation for the abduction, relatives of the Ismael brothers snatched three Syrians who hail from Assal Al-Ward.
The hostage swap took place in Baablek at 1:30 a.m. and was overseen by the Lebanese Army.
