BEIRUT: Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt warned Monday that instability in Egypt would have repercussions for the whole region.
Jumblatt, in his weekly opinion piece for the PSP’s Al-Anbaa magazine, praised late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel-Nasser.
“For his stance against the Muslim Brotherhood, Abdel-Nasser was a visionary leader.
He knew of their schemes and designs on Egypt since the 1960s and warned that there would be consequences,” Jumblatt said.
“Whereas the West insists to this day that the organization must be embraced and continues to support it against national, liberal and democratic movements.”
Jumblatt saluted the Egyptian army “who are paying a precious price for its patriotic stances” and expressed his “great sorrow for the fallen victims on the streets of Cairo and other areas in Egypt.”
