BEIRUT: The Internal Security Forces Information Branch arrested Tuesday a member of a car-bombing ring, security sources told The Daily Star.
The sources, who requested to remain anonymous, said the detainee was identified by his initials A.A.
The detainee is a member of a car-bombing ring which was uncovered by General Security over the weekend. The General Directorate of the security institution said Monday that it had confiscated an Audi vehicle containing 250 kilograms of explosives in Naameh, south of Beirut.
It added that three suspects had already been arrested for alleged involvement in the case.
The Lebanese man and two Palestinian brothers were arrested on suspicion of “creating a terrorist network, breaching security on Lebanese soil and preparing to carry out a bombing using the confiscated car.”
A car bomb exploded in the Beirut southern suburbs last week and killed 30 people in Hezbollah’s stronghold, amid rising fears of similar attacks to come.
