BEIRUT: The Education Ministry decided Monday on the framework for a new French language educational achievement test to be administered to students in ninth grade.
Plans are afoot to establish similar tests to monitor students’ progress in the English and Arabic languages. The French test was designed at a workshop organized by the Technical Committee of the National Agency for Assessment.
The workshop was held under the patronage of caretaker Education Minister Hassan Diab with the cooperation of the International Francophone Organization and the French Institute.
In attendance as a contributing language education policy expert in the Council of Europe was Jean Claude Beacco.
The test will be implemented as a trial at the beginning of the upcoming school year. The actual test, however, will be held in May 2014.
The results of May’s trial test will be studied and used to improve the quality of educational attainment in the French language.
Eventually, tests of this nature in French, English and Arabic will be used to inform the content of the curriculum and official exams.
