BEIRUT: A branch manager of a local money exchange company was robbed of $500,000 in cash in the southern port city of Tyre, a security source said Thursday.
The source told The Daily Star that police in Tyre are investigating the robbery which took place Wednesday afternoon.
Branch manager of Shouman Money Exchange, Mohammad Haidar, had asked an employee to put a briefcase containing the money in the trunk of his car while he replaced a flat tire.
The briefcase was missing when Haidar was finished changing the tire, the source added.
They said footage from surveillance cameras showed the presence of two cars and a motorcycle nearby prior to the robbery.
