BEIRUT: New United States Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale arrived in Beirut Thursday, U.S. Embassy officials said.
Hale was previously the U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace and has several years of experience working in Lebanon.
“I return at a time when there are serious political and security challenges facing Lebanon and the broader region,” Hale said in an embassy statement.
“But I know that the people of Lebanon remain committed, as they were a quarter a century ago, to maintaining true independence, unity, prosperity, and security throughout the entire country,” he added.
He replaces former Ambassador Maura Connelly in the embassy’s Awkar headquarters.
Hale made strong statements criticizing Hezbollah as he was being confirmed by the U.S. Senate at the beginning of August.
