BEIRUT: Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai stressed Thursday the need to reduce the selling of lands belonging to Christians.
The patriarch’s comments came during a meeting with Talal al-Doueihy, of the “Lebanese Land – Our Land Movement,” who handed him a memo about the issue at his summer residence in Diman.
Doueihy said after the meeting that Rai promised to send the memo to President Michel Sleiman to follow up on encroachments on Christian-owned lands across Lebanon.
The memo detailed 6.55 million square meters of land sold.
The memo emphasized the seriousness of the matter, describing it as an issue that should be dealt with to maintain coexistence among Lebanese citizens.
