BEIRUT: Speaker Nabih Berri said Wednesday the assassination of a Hezbollah commander in Beirut bore the hallmarks of Israel.
“The manner of the assassination is that adopted by Israel,” Berri told visitors during his weekly meeting with MPs, according to a statement from his office published by the National News Agency.
He also called for “vigilance at this stage because the enemy [Israel] is lurking among us all.”
Hezbollah commander Hassan Hawlo al-Lakkis was gunned down overnight Wednesday outside his home in the Hadath neighborhood of St. Therese. Hezbollah blamed Israel for the killing.
The speaker also expressed hope for the successful implementation of the security plan for the northern city of Tripoli and praised the preliminary accomplishments of the initiative thus far.
He also stressed that the Army be given all the means to succeed in its mission in restoring security in the port city.
Turning to the political scene, Berri said “there is nothing new regarding issues and proposals and the country remains in a static state.”
