BEIRUT: Lebanon issued Wednesday an arrest warrant and filed state charges against a suspect in recent bombings in Beirut’s southern suburbs, the state-run National News Agency said.
It said Military Investigative Judge Imad Zein issued the warrant for Hasan R., a Lebanese, in connection with the bombings in July and August in the Hezbollah strongholds of Bir al-Abed and Ruwaiss.
Hasan faces charges of “killing and wounding a number of people, destroying buildings and property and inflicting damage to cars and public and private facilities.”
NNA said Zein issued the warrant after interrogating Hasan, who is also accused of carrying out other terrorist acts. It said Zein would interrogate other suspects in the Bir al-Abed and Ruwaiss car bomb attacks Monday.
The Ruwaiss blast on Aug. 16 killed 24 people and wounded more than 300. It came almost a month after an explosion rocked the nearby neighborhood of Bir al-Abed, wounding over 50 people.
