BEIRUT: The UNHCR said Friday over 12,000 additional refugees registered with the agency this week in Lebanon, bringing the total number of Syrians in Lebanon to 835,000.

In its weekly update on the status of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the U.N. High Commission for Refugees said it is currently assisting 835,000, 771,000 registered and 64,000 awaiting registration.

Over 20,000 people have registered with the municipality in Arsal since the influx into Lebanon's northeastern town began in mid November with an average of 10-20 families per day.

The agency also said that 106 Syrian refugees departed to Germany under the temporary German Humanitarian Admission Program, bringing the total number of individuals who have benefited from this program to 803 with additional flights resuming in early January of 2014.

Lebanese officials say some 1.3 million refugees have arrived to Lebanon since the uprising against President Bashar Assad began in 2011.
